Dear FRA Resident,

We are experiencing a difficult enough time, due to both National cutbacks and those in Local Government, but on top of this FRA needs more residents to be prepared to put themselves out and take a more active part in helping the FRA to continue to preserve our already limited facilities and services.

We have been short of willing residents to put themselves forward for several years but in November alone, FRA has received two resignations from Executive Committee members and many others are finding it increasingly difficult to continue.

We would like more residents to get involved and work for Finham by being more active within the FRA. There is no upper age upper limit but we would also welcome younger residents from say 18 years old upwards so that we can continue for another 76 years as a local support group or even as a Parish Council. Training will be given!

A major concern is the possible closure of our Finham library. This has been rumoured for a few months now but our Sheila Bannister has done something by quickly organising a petition against it. Sheila has managed to collect 300 signatures against this proposal and our Wainbody Ward Councillor, John Blundell, presented this petition to Coventry City Council. Sheila's action has resulted in the matter being picked up by the BBC and YOU could help by being outside Finham Library by 12:10 hours tomorrow Monday 24th November when BBC Coventry and Warwickshire will be there to make a report to go out on Midlands Today. Please go and support Sheila as she raises our concerns. According to a report in the Coventry Observer, 13/11/14- page 3, there could only be 5 libraries in Coventry (say, Tile Hill, Binley, Wood End, Foleshill and Radford) and these would also host other services such as children’s services and community activities.

Others items;-

1. Ballot for Finham to become a Parish Council. Although the Ballot closed on November 5th, Coventry City Council has not yet released any details of the results, not even the number of papers sent out nor the number returned

2. Next FRA Committee meeting, 19:00hours, Finham Park School Library, Monday 24th November. Following meeting 15th December.

3. Next Safer Neighbourhood Group meeting, 10:30 hours Tuesday 2nd December, Canley Fire Station. (Last scheduled meeting for 4th November could not occur as no CCC officer turned up and the building was locked)

4. No.9 bus service. The discussions regarding the provision of a 'clockwise', continues.

5. The blue flower tubs by the shops in Green Lane, Brentwood Avenue and at the pedestrian crossing in St Martin's Road and at the bus stop at Erithway Road now have their winter planting. This is a project set up and operated by Finham Primary School. Thanks also to the residents who are also helping and looking after them with watering, etc.

Regards,

Bob Fryer
